The rubric-first method changed my grades in one course. I stopped writing beautifully and started writing to the criteria.

QUESTIONS PUT TO THE GUILD

GCU, in particular.

What is a benchmark assignment and why does it matter so much?

It is an assignment tied to a programmatic competency your degree has to evidence, which is why its rubric is longer and its weight is higher than an ordinary paper's. The common mistake is starting it last because the weekly work feels more urgent. Planning it from the first week of the course is the highest-value change most GCU students can make.

What can I do if my CLC group stops participating?

Produce your own portion early and put it in the shared document under your name, which both protects your mark and gives the instructor a record of who contributed. Then, if the group does collapse near the deadline, you are absorbing someone else's share with your own work already finished rather than starting from nothing at midnight.

How heavy is the weekly participation requirement at GCU?

Heavy in volume rather than difficulty. Courses ask for frequent contributions across the week, and the sheer regularity is what makes students feel permanently behind even when nothing is hard. Filing early in the week also means your posts collect real replies, which is where the substantive participation marks generally sit.

Does GCU expect a particular formatting style?

Programs specify their expectations closely and markers apply them consistently, including how sources are handled and how assignments are presented. Work from the assignment's own instructions rather than from a general style guide, because the requirements sometimes differ from the default in ways that cost easy marks.

Can Meritlore help with a GCU doctoral program?

Yes. Doctoral work there is planned across terms rather than inside one, with chapter-sized targets and dates somebody other than you is holding, since a long project with no external checkpoints is competing against a job that has plenty. The review board is handled early, because whether a project counts as research determines its whole route.
