QUESTIONS PUT TO THE GUILD

Purdue Global, in particular.

What happens if I cannot attend a live seminar?

Most courses offer an alternative assignment covering the same material, graded in place of attendance. Check your syllabus for how many you may miss before your grade is affected, because that allowance is usually smaller than students expect. The marks are lost far more often by not realising the option exists than by the quality of the alternative.

How do ten-week terms differ from eight-week ones?

There is more room, which is genuinely easier and quietly riskier. Ten weeks gives space to recover from a bad fortnight, and it also gives space to fall behind for a month before anything feels urgent. Closing each unit inside its own week is what stops a backlog forming, because units stack rather than wait.

What is ExcelTrack and who is it suited to?

It is the competency-based route, where you demonstrate what you already know rather than sit through material you have covered before. It suits students with real prior experience in the subject and punishes stalling, since speed converts directly into money saved. Planning a submission order at the start matters more here than anywhere else on the platform.

Do the unit discussion boards carry much weight?

Collectively yes, which surprises people. Each one is minor and they arrive every unit for ten weeks, so a habit of posting at the last moment costs a serious share of the grade by the end. Posting early in the unit also gives your classmates something to respond to, which is where the substantive marks are.

I am several units behind. Is the term recoverable?

Usually more recoverable than in an eight-week format, but the answer is arithmetic rather than encouragement. What matters is the share of the grade the outstanding units carry, not how many there are. Work that out before deciding how hard to push, and check your withdrawal date at the same time so the option is still live if you need it.
